I got the El Jefe bowl and it did not disappoint! Chicken was on point and had a great flavor. The staff was friendly and it had a great vibe. I would definitely recommend this place and come back when we visit!

I had placed an online order to pick up in the store. When I arrived the order was very messed up and they offered to re-make my order. The re-make came back with the same issue as before. The manager then stepped in and made the bowls herself and gave us a store gift card for the trouble. Food was absolutely delicious and I really appreciated the effort that went into making things right. I will definitely return because I know I will be taken care of. Thank you!

I love coming to Roots! It’s always so flavorful and delicious. I got a custom bowl with the mushrooms and tried the jackfruit on the side. The mushrooms was 🔥 like always!!! Best mushrooms I’ve ever tasted. The jackfruit was okay, not my cup of tea only because it was slightly tangy and it’s always hard to get that tang taste out of jackfruit. But I appreciated Jody for working with me and recommending the jackfruit sauce to make it taste better! That was really sweet of her. But yes, love this place. Definitely give it a try if your looking for healthy food around VCUs campus.

I’m a long time roots natural kitchen fan from Blacksburg VA, but this location is just awful. The 3 times I’ve ordered from here my bowls have been so poorly mixed. I order 2 el jefe bowls and they looks like different meals entirely (see below). What a shame.

I went to Roots on January 10 to pick up an order I placed online. Pickup time was 1:45. I waited for 15 minutes and asked the person at the register to cancel my order because I was running late for my appointment. He wrote down my order number and said he was going to cancel. I just checked my bank account and the money was taken out of my account for a salad I never picked up. There were customers before me waiting for 30-45 minutes for app orders while walk-ins were in and out in five minutes. If there is a delay in the online order pick up time, something needs to be done to not keep customers waiting so long. As much as I love Roots, I will never return to this location.

Roots used to be fantastic but lately there is an issue getting orders right. For some reason requesting dressing on the side means your salad will come with tons dressing on it. Due to this happening 5+ times I can’t justify ordering from roots anymore. Very disappointed VCU’s Roots has gone downhill.

Ordered through Uber Eats to the hotel I was staying at. Quick prep and delivery. Minus one star bc I ordered a strawberry dragonfruit Roots tea and got a can of spindrift sparkling water… I paid for the tea, if the were out and needed to substitute they could have called me and I would have just cancelled the drink order. Their Mayweather salad is really flavorful tho so overall I’m happy just don’t make assumptions on substitutions.
